"My approach to capturing light and color in the landscape is the same, whether I'm standing outdoors painting plein aire, or at my easel in the studio.  My paintings are a result of my pursuit and my passion.  My pursuit to understand how light affects color and my passion about translating the many keys of light and shadow as they form complex color relationships on the subjects that I paint."

"During the demo, I will be taking a plein aire study and enlarging it into a bigger studio painting.  I will start with a small value study sketch and talk about how to convey the light and color in the landscape by identifying the big shapes first, getting the first notes down in big color, clarifying and simplifying the composition, and pushing the values.  It is the laying of color, as I break down the big shapes into smaller notes of color, that ultimately creates the luminosity in my paintings."
