I discovered pastels during art lessons from Janet Dingledein when I was 12 years old, back in the mid 80's. I put them away until last year, when I started drawing on our backyard fence with them. There weren't enough colors in the crayola chalk box, so why not use the pastels? I ran out of fence in my backyard, so I'm now primarily drawing on reclaimed fence wood "canvases" in addition to paper.
I have a MFA from Pratt, but haven't used it since 1999 or so- medical school and life as a doctor took priority. However, I'm now reconnecting with the right side of my brain and am putting that art degree to use as a part time artist. I'm looking to connect with other pastel artists and improve my skills by attending demos and workshops.
